Now that we have a new range available where we can shoot metal silhouettes, let’s take advantage of it.
Dave Sundberg has set up registered matches on the fourth Saturday of the month at the CVSF in Chino Valley.
Silhouette targets will not be available for general shooting. The practice matches will provide an opportunity for practice, sighting, and introducing new shooters to metallic silhouette shooting.
The match will not be registered, you don’t have to have a NRA silhouette score book, and you don’t have to turn in your score card - but if it goes well, you can have bragging rights.
Targets will be NRA 1⁄2 size Hunter Pistol Targets.
We will set up a full bank of small bore targets. 10 animals each: Chickens @ 40m, Pigs @ 50m, Turkeys @ 75m, Rams @ 100m. These will be limited to 22LR only. You can shoot rifles or pistols
Swingers (two of each animal) will be set up at the same distances. These can be shot with 22LR or Hunter Pistol cartridges (straight wall pistol, or some others loaded down to 1800 fps or less).
Course of fire:
We will run relays by the NRA rules; 30 sec load period, 5 shots / 2min. Everyone will start on chickens, then rotate to next animal after 10 shots. Relays will not be assigned, just get in line and take turns starting. The relays will be used for both swingers and small bore targets. After a couple of structured relays, and depending upon the turn-out, we may then just do open practice on targets. We have found in a couple of tries at this that participants were able to get all the practice they want (or have ammo for these days!)
For now, set-up at 8:30 a.m. Start shooting at 9:00 a.m. Wind, especially in the spring, will probably practically limit us to 11:00 - 12:00 p.m. If wind becomes a problem and when the weather gets hotter, we may start earlier in the future.
The targets for the practice match are owned and provided for practice match use by club members.
There will be no fee for club members. We will ask a $5 donation towards a target purchase fund so the targets may be purchased for club ownership in the future.
We will welcome non-members. Non-club members will be charged the $10 daily range fee for the practice session.
