 Hi Power

 Contact: Tim Kulow

Hi-Power Clinic Notice:  Our esteemed shooting guru, Fred Filkins has agreed to hold a short clinic on the basics of Hi-Power shooting prior to our August match on 8/24 at 8am at the range.  His vast knowledge of the subject can probably help even those of us who have shot Hi-Power regularly (in case of overflow, preference will be given to new shooters).  No prior registration is required and there is no charge for the clinic.  At the conclusion of the clinic we will hold our regular Hi-Power match.

NRA Small-bore League report for July
There were only a handful of our League members present for the July match on the third Sunday.  Several regulars were off to Camp Perry, Ohio for the National Championships.  And Mother Nature decided we had had enough perfect shooting weather and it rained off and on all day.  Still we had some excellent scores for the match, with Jack Arnold sweeping the 4 individual matches to claim the aggregate with a fine 1592-105Xs. This was a conventional 1600 point Iron Sights match.  Bob Molloy was second with a fine 1569-79X, and Terry Liffick shot a personal high at 1552-46Xs.  Joining us from Cottonwood were two of our distinguished Senior class shooters (using telescopes) - Vi Hansen fired a very nice 1583-90X and hubby Ralph shot 1555-58X.  And as usual, our F-class shooter (from a rest) Jim Welsh obliterated the X-ring with a 1599-145X score.    Our next match will be held on August 17, and will be our 1200 Point English Match at 50 meters.  This is a combination League match and also our Senior Olympics Precision Rifle match for those who have registered for the Prescott Sr. Olympic Games.  There is still time to sign up for the 8 shooting events in this year's Games.  Applications are at the range or call 777-1550 to register.  Check in at 7:30 - match begins at 8:00.

Black Powder

(Contact: Gary Sampson

Sunday 08 June 2008.

In the absence of Tony (The Badger) Phillips, Jon (The Pack Rat) Pack put on the shoot.
Nine Brave and fearless shooters challenged Mother Nature and the 80 degree day to keep the sport of Black Powder Burning alive.

Roland Baker shot an impressive 185 followed closely by Chuck who shot a 173.  Past shoots were talked about and in general everyone admitted, grudgingly that they had shot much better on different occasions.
Walking Bear had a 144, Harry a 143, Pack Rat who was distracted by his wife’s call during his last shot had a 135 and Steve brought up the rear with a 129

One Rifle broke after the first shot, Reinhold’s and two shooters were just practicing with brand new rifles, one of them a Home Made Wheel Lock

All in all, fun was had by everyone.

Sunday 13 July 2008

In the absence of Tony, “Badger”, Phillips, Jon, “Pack Rat”, Pack put on the monthly shoot. Ten brave and courageous shooters braved the Monsoon and competed for prize money totaling $25.00

First place, $10.00, went to Roland Baker for shooting a very nice 168, second went to Pete, and he took home $7.00, shooting a 141, third went to Pack Rat who pocketed $5.00 with a score of 138, using a 1803 Harpers Ferry Flint Lock, and fourth went to Mike Robling who shot a 128 and took home almost enough to buy a gallon of gas.

The weather was perfect. We used the pistol range as it was to damp to drive onto the main range, and there have been safety concerns and possible damage to the firing points on the main range.

Looking forward to seeing all at the August 10th match. -Jon H. Pack aka Pack Rat
