President’s Report
Come and check out our future range site.
On Saturday, August 30th, we will be
taking a tour of the Club’s new range site.
For those members interested in car pooling or
caravanning, we will meet at 0800 in
the parking lot of M&I Bank, across the street from the
Those not joining
us can reach the site by driving east (southerly) on Hwy 69 to the junction of
Hwy 169 (the old Young’s farm road), turning left and proceeding along 169,
past the land-fill to the site. It is on the north (left) side of the road
about a mile or so short of the junction with I-17. Just look for the cars
parked there.
I will try to have a representative of the USFS join us
to answer any questions you may have.
As you may recall, at the April 2008 Directors meeting, the Board voted to enter into an agreement with the AZ Game & Fish Dept. and submitted three proposed potential locations for a new PSC range for USFS consideration. Under the terms of this agreement the Club would become the user organization of the new range. We will be visiting the site selected.

With the resignation of Roger Zeigler
from the Board, a vacancy now exists. In accordance with the By-Laws,
Section V, "Board of Director vacancies shall be filled by appointment by
the Club President, subject to approval by the Board." We expect
that this will take place at The August meeting. Anyone interested in
joining the Board should contact Mark Fricke (aftt@hotmail.com) or Gene Zutell (zutell61@aol.com) before the August 19th
meeting. With the increasing emphasis on developing a new range, these
are busy times for the club. Active Board members will be very
welcome.
The Board extends its sincere thanks to Roger for his service to the Club and
wishes him success in all future endeavors.
At the July meeting, the Board also extended its appreciation to Cliff Novgrad
for the superb job he has done in producing the monthly newsletters. They
are professional in appearance and content and extremely important not
only for disseminating information but also for maintaining continuity of club
activities. Great job Cliff.
-Gene Zutell,
Aw-Shucks…!
And a special thanks to Dorothy Maddock who makes sure the US Mule gets the newsletter, to Doug. Weber, who writes the check to feed the mule, and Terry Liffick, whose up to date membership lists points him in the right direction…and of course, to all our regular contributors.

Celebration Up-date
At our last committee meeting it was
decided to poll our membership to determine interest in attending the Saturday
Sept. 13 event. (See elsewhere in the newsletter for the event
activities planned).
We need a relatively accurate attendance
count in order to finish the arrangements. So we are asking those who
plan to attend to let us know ASAP by
one of 3 ways: an e-mail to HTLiffick@aol.com,
call 928-636-7717 or sign up at the
range. Provide your Member ID#, Name, # of adults & # of children
attending.
We will mail you your tickets for the

Our
Fifty Year Anniversary
The 50th Celebration committee (we can
always use more volunteers) has met several times and has initiated the
following actions:
1. Moved the celebration event day
to Saturday, September 13.
This will move it off of the July 4th weekend and also give us more time to
implement a superior event.
2. Filed an Event Plan with the USFS to ensure our activities do not
encounter any restrictions.
3. The agenda for the Event Day will open at
4. After a 60-75 minute program, lunch can be purchased from an on-site
food-cart vendor. The club intends to subsidize the cost to the extent we
can get donations to do so.
5. Exhibits of shooting competition equipment as well as booths from gun
stores in the area will be available for viewing (no sales transactions
however).
6. Activities for youngsters will be available to occupy their time, and
we encourage members to bring their children to the event - they will be the
shooters of tomorrow.
7. Appropriate souvenirs and mementos will be available to commemorate
the event, including an Event Program which will contain much interesting
historical material.
8. We are expecting a large crowd and parking will be strictly managed,
with vehicles parked on the rifle range and controlled one-way ingress/egress
on the entrance road.
Please plan to join us and celebrate our
Club’s history and our great Second Amendment freedoms!!

Hi-Power Rifle Clinic
Our
esteemed shooting guru, Fred Filkens has agreed to hold a short clinic on the basics
of Hi-Power Rifle shooting prior to our August match on the 24th at
His vast knowledge of the subject can
probably help even those of us who have shot Hi-Power regularly. In case of
overflow, preference will be given to new shooters. No prior registration is
required and there is no charge for the clinic.
At
the conclusion of the clinic we will hold our regular Hi-Power match.

paper silhouette? Whatever?
Anyone interested in
setting up a special shooting match during the weekday, should get in
touch with the Range Master, Todd Farley.
Please Slow Down
The speed limit on the
range road is 15 MPH.
Please
observe the speed limit and keep the dust down, save wear and tare on your
tires, wheel alignment and most of all, our road.
Range Reminders
What
to do if the target backer and/or frame is shot-up,
ratty or just plain unusable?
Don’t
put it back, or leave it for someone else and go on your way. Bring it to the
Range Master for repair or replacement.
The
pistol target frames are
suffering a high casualty rate. Many are so shot-up they can’t be salvaged. The
cost and frequency of replacement is becoming a concern, so please center your
targets on the cardboard and and remember, “ grip, aim, align sights and squeeze”.
A
clean firing line is a safe firing line. Please sweep up your
brass,( especially the .22s,) patches & wads, shot
targets and other “material” and encourage our non-member shooters to do the
same.
When
coming to the range to shoot, please sign
in first and then haul your
stuff to the line. Not the other way around.
On
the High Power Rifle range all targets must be placed as high on the
backer as possible to assure that rounds
strike the impact area. The 200
yard berm is not an impact area.
Please
folks, only one target per frame on
the Pistol, High Power and Small Bore Rifle ranges. That’s one sheet of
paper, appropriately centered on the cardboard backer. Multiple bullseyes, scoring circles or squares printed on this single sheet of paper, are OK.
.
If
in doubt, check with the Range Master.
The
Range Master’s days off
are Saturday and Sunday. Range operations will be supervised on those days by
RSO’s. A RSO will be in charge on Sunday morning during the Club matches when
the range is open only for those scheduled activities.
Shooting
hours are
from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Saturday. The gate will be opened at 8:30am
to allow for set up and preparation. However, no shooting until 9:00 am. There
will be no change to Sunday hours of operation or access to the range.
Items
for sale
are posted on range bulletin board on a first come, space available, basis. Postings must be dated, and are limited to 60 day
duration.

The
Board wants to hear from you.
If you have an issue that you would like to have the Board consider, we invite you to come to a board meeting and present it
If you wish to make a motion for Board consideration, please present it in writing. Hand written is fine. Typed is preferred. We ask that you first give it to the Secretary for inclusion into the agenda.
The agenda is usually finalized the week before the meeting date. You will find the board meeting date on the monthly activities calendar, but just in case we forgot to put there, they are normally the third Tuesday of each month.
You may call the Club 771-9616 if you have questions about presenting a motion.
Our Board Meetings are held at the Hillside
Church of God at 937 Ruth Street, Prescott.
Please keep in mind that you are always welcome at our board meetings and you will be heard, time permitting. You may not vote on issues before the board as only the board members vote on motions.

Black Powder Shoots
Sunday
08 June 2008.
In
the absence of Tony (The Badger) Phillips, Jon (The Pack Rat) Pack put on the
shoot.
Nine Brave and fearless shooters challenged Mother Nature and the 80 degree day
to keep the sport of Black Powder Burning alive.
Roland Baker shot an impressive 185 followed closely by Chuck who
shot a 173. Past shoots were talked about and in general everyone
admitted, grudgingly that they had shot much better on different occasions.
Walking Bear had a 144, Harry a 143, Pack Rat who was distracted by his wife’s
call during his last shot had a 135 and Steve brought up the rear with a 129
One
Rifle broke after the first shot, Reinhold’s and two shooters were just
practicing with brand new rifles, one of them a Home Made Wheel Lock
All
in all, fun was had by everyone.

Sunday
13 July 2008
In
the absence of Tony, “Badger”, Phillips, Jon, “Pack Rat”, Pack put on the
monthly shoot. Ten brave and courageous shooters braved the Monsoon and
competed for prize money totaling $25.00
First
place, $10.00, went to Roland Baker for
shooting a very nice 168, second went to Pete, and he took home $7.00, shooting
a 141, third went to Pack Rat who pocketed $5.00 with a score of 138, using a
1803 Harpers Ferry Flint Lock, and fourth went to Mike Robling
who shot a 128 and took home almost enough to buy a gallon of gas.
The
weather was perfect. We used the pistol range as it was to damp to drive onto
the main range, and there have been safety concerns and possible damage to the
firing points on the main range.
Looking forward to seeing all at the August 10th
match. -Jon H. Pack aka Pack Rat
