Safety is no accident.
Be sure that you agree with this entire statement before you use this
facility.
If
you aren’t safety conscious you may cause harm to yourself or others and you
may be held accountable for any harm done.
You
should read and understand all of the rules.
If
you are found to be of questionable judgment regarding the rules you may be
asked by the Range Master or Range Safety Officer to leave the range and you may
not be allowed to come back in the future.
If
you see a person break any range rule it is incumbent upon you to bring it to
their attention and to the attention of the Range Officer. If the Range Officer
does not see the violation do not hesitate to bring it to the attention of both
parties. It will be a learning experience that will pay dividends in the future.
Don’t be rude but do bring it up.
Safety is not someone else’s job; it is your responsibility to be safe
and to be accountable.
The
safety of all persons and property are our primary concern. That includes
property and persons off of the range property.
Live firing is permitted only when an assigned
Range Officer is present. Organizations using the range under agreement with the
Executive Officer may provide their own Range Officers if qualified. They may
also arrange to utilize the club Rangemaster.
Always keep your firearms pointed in a safe direction. A safe direction at this range will be down range at all times even if you have permission of the Range Officer to perform maintenance or repairs. Maintenance or repairs may be done with permission of the range officer only and will be done on the firing line with the firearm always pointed down range.
Always
keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Handling of
firearms during a cease-fire is not allowed.
Always
keep the action of your firearm open and unloaded until you are on the firing
line and the command to “commence firing” is given. Open the action and
install an Open Bolt Indicator as soon as you remove your rifle from your
car, case or holster. Open Bolt Indicators will be installed in all
rifles on the range until the Range Officer gives the command “The line is
hot”. Holstered handguns are safe. Handguns on the firing line bench will be unloaded and open until “the
line is hot”.
Know
your target and what is beyond. When
on this range be mindful of the adjacent areas and act accordingly.
Be
sure that your firearm is safe to shoot.
Know
how to use your firearm safely. If
you need help ask the Rangemaster for help but don’t expect him to take the
time to do this while others are using the facility.
You
are responsible to see that you are using the correct ammunition in your
firearm.
Eye
and ear protection will be utilized.
NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS before or during your shooting activities.
Your property
is your responsibility at this range.
Safety. Always
remember that safety is the first rule
when you are on the range, shooting or as a spectator.
Spectators.
If you aren’t shooting do not go onto the firing line area to talk to a
shooter.
Range
Commands. Know all of the range commands that may be used in your shooting
discipline. If you are unsure of the commands ask the RSO.
Be Aware of
others. Know where other shooters are at all times.
Target
changing. At the Command to “Cease-Fire” all shooters will unload and
apply bolt open indicators and then move to the rear of their station on the
backside of the yellow safety line. Only when the RSO has determined the line is
safe and he states the “The line is safe, you may go down range” is it
allowed to do so.
Targets allowed. Shoot only at authorized
targets. Nothing but paper targets will be used on this range and no more than
one target per stand. All targets must be centered in the frame uprights.
Multiple targets causes damaged frames.
Ground level
targets are not permitted on this range. Maintain the proper target height
to insure that your projectile is hitting the backstop at the desired level. If
you have a question about this ask the Range Officer for an opinion.
Impact
areas. Targets must be
positioned so that all projectiles strike within the impact backstop.
Range
Officers. No person is allowed to shoot on this range unless there is a RSO on
duty
Cease
Fire Command. Anyone may issue the
cease-fire command but the RSO on duty normally accomplishes this in the normal
course of events. If you feel that fire should cease for a safety reason then do
not hesitate to issue the command loud and clear.
Do
not handle any firearm or stand at
the firing line where firearms are present while anyone is down range. You must
either be down range or behind the Yellow Safety Line
Always
keep the muzzle of your firearm pointed in a safe direction.
Firing
sessions will normally be fifteen minutes in duration, followed by a
target-changing period. Do not accomplish your target inspections at the target
line. Do it at the benches behind the firing line.
Junior shooters under the
age of 18 must be under the supervision of an accompanying adult at all times.
Range Flags. There are three
flags on the range. The Red flag is located to the rear of the hi-power firing
line east of the range office. This flag must be raised before the range is
operational. It should be lowed at the end of the day. The other two flags are
boundary markers and fly at all times.
No Shooting
will take place on the following days, New Years Day, Thanksgiving Day and
Christmas Day.
Shooting
will be suspended for range maintenance one half day per month. The time and
date of the suspension will be scheduled by the Range Director and will be
noted on the monthly calendar.
Sand Bags
and Target Frames. If you use club provided sand bags you are expected to
put them back in the locker where they are kept in front of the Range office.
The same goes for target frames. If you damage a target frame the range master
will levy a charge based on his estimate of the cost to repair it.
Shotgun
patterning. Patterning will only be done with permission of the Range Master
and only on patterning boards supplied by the shooter. The Club will not allow
the use of club target frames for this purpose.
Shotgun
shooting. Firing at moving clays is not permitted. Shooting slugs is
permitted but they must strike the backstops. This may be done on the pistol or
the hi-power range with concurrence of the RSO.
Ammunition. Any
commercial grade, Military surplus except tracer and armor piercing and
properly hand-loaded ammunition may be used on this range.
Repairing firearms. Repairs will only be done at the firing line and only if the Range Officer grants permission. The firearm will at all times be pointed down range so that any discharge will strike the backstop berm.
